BASIS Charter Schools Celebrate Students With Letterman Jacket Ceremony

In November, BASIS Baton Rouge Materra and BASIS Baton Rouge Primary Mid City honored high-achieving students with personalized letterman jackets. These jackets were awarded during graduation-style ceremonies attended by families, teachers, and staff. One by one, the student honorees were called to the stage to receive their new jackets.

This is the second year that BASIS Baton Rouge Charter Schools have held letterman jacket ceremonies, and the schools hope to make this an ongoing tradition!

Students in grade 4 or above at both BASIS Baton Rouge campuses are eligible to receive letterman jackets. The jackets are awarded based on student performance on academic assessments, with specific criteria varying by grade level.

Each jacket is embroidered with the first name and initial of the student. Notably, these jackets are entirely paid for by the school—there is no cost to families!

This year, over 300 students were honored across BASIS Baton Rouge Materra and BASIS Baton Rouge Primary Mid City. “We are thrilled to have so many high-achieving students this year. We had so many that we had to split our ceremonies into multiple nights!” says Jared Lamb, Head of School at BASIS Baton Rouge Materra.

Marissa Carroll, Head of School at BASIS Baton Rouge Primary Mid City, says that the personalized letterman jackets strengthen school culture and bring a positive energy to the campus. “The students take such pride in being able to wear their jackets around school,” she says. “It creates a great sense of community, and it inspires students to do their best!”

While 300 students qualifying for letterman jackets is an incredible feat, this is only the beginning. “Our goal is to have more and more students wearing these jackets each year!” says Mr. Lamb.
