CSAL Middle’s LaMont Cole Named New Superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish School District

LaMont Cole, a seasoned educator with 25 years of experience, has been appointed as the new superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School District. Cole’s extensive background includes education roles from top to bottom. Supt. Cole has experience as a teacher, curriculum specialist, administrator, chief academic officer, and most recently, the principal of CSAL Middle, a segment of Louisiana’s oldest charter school system.

Cole’s diverse experiences across various educational settings, including public and charter schools, provide him with a unique perspective, expected to be advantageous in his new role. Caroline Roemer, executive director of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS), praised Cole’s appointment, referring to him as a “Triple Threat.” She highlighted his deep-rooted connection with the East Baton Rouge (EBR) system, his leadership within a charter organization, and his adeptness at navigating politics and building community support.

“We haven’t ever seen that experience and skill set in an EBR superintendent,” Roemer said. She also noted her time working with Cole at CSAL, emphasizing his student-centric approach. “The kids matter the most to him. He speaks not only about academic outcomes but also about the overall well-being of students.”

Cole’s commitment to student welfare will be a driving force in his new position, ensuring that both parents and students have optimal educational choices in Baton Rouge. Among his priorities are student safety, teacher support, and financial transparency. Additionally, Cole aims to strengthen partnerships with Southern University, LSU, and Baton Rouge Community College to expand opportunities for students. “When [students] finish the K-12 experience, they have options. We don’t know what they will choose, but it is our job to prepare them, so when they make a choice, they can make an informed choice and a skilled choice,” said Cole in a recent interview.

As Cole steps into his role, the community anticipates significant advancements in the district’s educational landscape, driven by his comprehensive expertise and unwavering dedication to student success.
